South Puget Sound Clippers to return for NWAC Golf action, hires new assistant coach

After a six-month winter break, the South Puget Sound Community College (SPSCC) Men’s and Women’s Golf Teams are set to return to the golf course to compete in various meets as they vie for a spot in the NWAC Golf Championships this May.

In their inaugural season of playing this sport, the Clippers golf team played their first-ever tournament in September last year at the Grays Harbor Invitational in DuPont, WA.

Since then, they have competed in three other meets, the latest being in the SW Oregon League Match last October 15-16, before the winter break.

With golf returning this April, Golf program head coach Russ Olsen hired new Assistant Coach Joey Woods to help the teams finish out the next four tournaments on a strong note.

“I think I bring to the team a championship pedigree coming from Capital High School. Also, I feel like my passion and drive for students to succeed, not only in their athletics but in the classroom as well, will be a major help to the program,” said Woods.

The return leg of the NWAC golf season starts this weekend, April 14-15, in the Olympic Tournament in Port Orchard, WA, at McCormick Woods Golf Club. The Clippers will then compete in three other tournaments leading to the NWAC Golf Championships that will take place at Apple Tree Golf Course in Yakima, WA, on May 19-20.
