The South Sound Opening Day on Saturday, May 9, will feature the theme “Olympia, Portal to the World,” linking the city’s historic seaport with Seattle and Tacoma’s opening day themes, as the Puget Sound region gears up to host the World Cup.
The event opens the boating season in the region with the South Sound Opening Day Parade at 12:30 p.m.
Visitors can enjoy the scenery, including a lineup of boats, community spirit and classic waterfront fun, at Port Plaza or West Bay Park.
The annual Wooden Boat Festival begins on Friday, May 8, at the Percival Landing, and continues on May 9. The festival will be filled with booths, displays, food vendors and family-friendly activities along the shoreline.
People may also visit the Olympia Yacht Club info booth during the festival to learn about membership and how to participate.

So countries are boycotting the World Cup, hotel reservations are in a slump, tourism is down and the Port chooses to host a pipe dream.

The Festival was a Bust. Very few attended. I won't be surprised if the World Cup thing Flops as well. West Marine is going bankrupt. You can't touch the water here for fear of dioxon poisoning. What could possibly go next. 30 gallons of Diesel is over $200. And that's NOT Marine Diesel. Olympia City Council and The Port Of Olympia needs to make Olympia welcoming not Parasitic.
