Thurston County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a suspect with a robbery warrant following a traffic violation that led to a chase.
Thurston County Sheriff Derek Sanders shared dash cam and body camera footage showing that deputies spotted a truck with expired tabs speeding at 75 mph in a 60 mph zone and tried to flag it down.
When the vehicle fled, the deputies chased it down Pacific Avenue and Fones Road, ending in a neighborhood where deputies stopped pursuing the truck. The suspect left his vehicle and tried to escape on foot.
Deputies chased the suspect and arrested him without incident.
Looking up the suspect’s identity, deputies discovered he had multiple warrants for 2nd-degree robbery and domestic violence in King County.
The suspect is booked in Thurston County on warrants, attempting to elude, and driving on a suspended license.
“This is yet another example of a pursuit for a “minor” traffic infraction leading to the capture of a dangerous individual we do not want roaming free on our streets at 3 a.m. in Thurston County,” Sanders commented in his press release. “Prior to the change in law, deputies would have been required to terminate and let him drive away.”
