A stolen vehicle was recovered hours after a reported theft at The Landing Apartments in Olympia on May 22. According to an Olympia Police Department (OPD) report, a 2005 Infiniti was taken from the apartment complex on Fieldstone Drive SW some time after 8 p.m.
The vehicle's owner reported the car missing, stating, “The keys to the vehicle had been left inside, and the vehicle had been unlocked.”
Surveillance footage reviewed by the responding officers showed a woman, later identified as Amanda Ros, approaching the building and knocking on the victim’s unit but there was no answer.
She was later seen approaching the parking lot and entering the victim’s vehicle. She then drove away without the owner's permission.
The suspect is known to local law enforcement.
“She (the suspect) has caused numerous issues at The Landing, and has been involved in robberies, order violations, stolen vehicles, among other calls, before she had moved out earlier in the year. I had also been made aware that Amanda had recently been back in Olympia, and specifically had been around The Landing,” stated the OPD responding officer in the police report.
Later that night, officers were informed that Ros had returned to the complex. She was found near the building’s main entrance talking with the victim. She was then taken into custody by the OPD officers.
During the arrest, she admitted to taking the vehicle, claiming she did so to settle a personal dispute.
Ros was booked into Thurston County Corrections Facility on suspicion of motor vehicle theft.
The suspect told authorities of the location of the stolen vehicle, and it was returned to its owner shortly.
