Storm system could bring snow to the region

The odds of snow falling to the ground are improving with every step a large mass of cold air takes on its march toward Thurston County.

The National Weather Service Office in Seattle forecast calls for a 20 percent chance of rain after noon and a daytime high near 47 degrees on Saturday, Feb. 14. The overnight low should be around 33 degrees amid mostly cloudy skies.

The high should be near 46 degrees on Sunday, Feb. 15, with a northeast wind of 3 to 6 miles per hour. The overnight low should be around 30 degrees with a chance of rain and snow.

The prospects for snow brighten on Presidents Day with a chance of rain and snow before 10 a.m., and then rain. The daytime high should be near 43 degrees. Little or no snow accumulation is expected. The overnight low should be around 32 degrees.

The chance for a dusting of snow stems from a weather system making its way from Alaska.

“A frontal passage from the Gulf of Alaska will move into the Pacific Northwest and will bring chances for precipitation over the next few days,” said the National Weather Service Weather Prediction Center in College Park, Maryland, in a short range forecast discussion.

A chance of a wintry mix is possible through most of next week with daytimes highs in the low to mid-40s and overnight lows around the freezing mark. Forecasts are subject to change.
