A man was arrested last night after attempting to steal a large quantity of over-the-counter (OTC) medications from a local retail store in the 1400 block of Fones Road SE.
According to the Lacey Police Department (LPD) report, store security spotted the suspect stuffing various medications into a shopping bag.
When the suspect, identified as Trevor Daniel Mulka, tried to leave without paying, he was confronted by loss prevention staff and dropped the stolen items.
The suspect fled the scene and was seen getting into a vehicle.
Authorities located the vehicle shortly afterward as it was leaving a nearby parking lot and conducted a traffic stop.
During the stop, officers discovered five trash bags filled with OTC medications in the vehicle, along with additional bags in the front passenger seat.
A search warrant was obtained, and officers recovered approximately 270 boxes of OTC medications from the vehicle.
“Some of these medications had stickers on them with store numbers, and officers were able to identify products from about seven different stores within Pierce and Thurston County,” LPD stated in the report.
The suspect was arrested and charged with second-degree organized retail theft and driving with a suspended license.
