A 19-year-old Tumwater man is being held on $100,000 bail after being accused of shooting a 19-year-old Olympia man multiple times during a fight last month.

Thomas M. Brown was charged with second-degree attempted murder while armed with a deadly weapon. He is the third person charged in the nonfatal shooting incident, but is the only one charged with attempted murder.

Two other 19-year-olds, Aaron Carrol and Donzale Stewart, have been charged with first-degree assault after allegedly attacking the victim with a baseball bat. They were arrested Nov. 12. According to court documents, a group of six people — including the three who have been charged — had planned an attack on the victim after learning he allegedly assaulted a friend.

Police reports indicate that on Nov. 8, Carrol and the victim had planned to fight after exchanging text messages. The group of six arrived at the victim’s residence and a fight ensued. The JOLT previously reported Carrol and Stewart began fighting with the victim. After the victim was struck with a baseball bat, he tried to get away, but was shot multiple times. Court documents that were filed in the other two suspects’ cases didn’t note who fired the gun.

Court documents filed in the case against Brown indicate that through interviewing people involved with the assault, detectives deduced Brown was the one who shot the victim. One person, who has not been charged in the assault but was allegedly present, told detectives Brown approached the victim and shot him point blank three times. Everyone fled the scene after shots were fired. The person said they weren’t aware Brown intended to shoot the victim.

“The only reason for shooting him at this point and multiple times from point blank range would have been to kill him,” reads a detective’s report.

Some reports state that Brown fired three times while others say he fired four times. One report indicates the victim had four bullet wounds — two in the pelvis, one in the bicep and one in the thigh.

As police arrived on the scene, they saw two vehicles driving away, allegedly by the suspects. The victim was wanted for an earlier incident in Lacey, but was instead found suffering from the gunshot wounds. Police provided life saving measures until medics arrived. The victim was taken to a hospital in Seattle.

Brown was booked into the Thurston County Jail on Nov. 25.
