Olympia Police Department (OPD) and Thurston County Sheriff’s Office (TCSO) personnel captured a suspected drug dealer known to be armed and dangerous on the evening of Wednesday, Jan. 8.

According to a TCSO social media release, the incident began when OPD received an alert from a Flock License Plate Reader (LPR) identifying a vehicle linked to the suspect, Randy Dean Rich.

OPD officers located the vehicle on Interstate 5 and discreetly followed it while requesting support from TCSO, specifically a grappler-equipped unit.

In dash cam footage released by TCSO, deputies initiated a traffic stop to which the driver responded by fleeing.

This prompted the deputies to pursue the suspect vehicle, which led them to Maytown Road and Case Road. The grappler wa thens deployed, and ended the pursuit.

The suspect was taken into custody with the assistance of K-9 Asher.

During the arrest, an empty holster on the suspect and visible drug paraphernalia inside the vehicle were discovered.

A search warrant also revealed narcotics, scales and baggies, all indications of drug distribution.

The suspect had multiple warrants out for his arrest, including a felony DOC (Department of Corrections) escape warrant and warrants for violating a domestic violence protection order,” the TCSO said.

The alleged drug dealer was booked into Thurston County Jail on charges of attempt to elude a pursuing police vehicle, attempted unlawful possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, third-degree theft and outstanding warrants.

So they used some of the new Technology to stop Car chases? Thats pretty interesting. Also interesting is the empty holster. Do you think the bad guy threw his sidearm out the window during the chase?
