Tacoma-Olympia Spring Exhibition: Art of Ikebana and Bamboo

The Tacoma Olympia chapter #147 of Ikebana International is having its Spring Exhibition on April 26 and 27. It will be held at TCC, Tacoma Community College. Ikebana is the art of Japanese flower arrangement.  The organizers have a spring exhibition every year and it is at Tacoma Community College Art Gallery. About half the members are from Olympia and Mason counties.  The exhibition last year was attended by over 130 people.  These flower arrangements have been used since the 14th century in Japan, first in religious settings. Now it is totally modernized but still has some of the same design principles.  The arrangements are all asymmetrical and sometimes abstract. The Tacoma-Olympia chapter has around 45 members, and some people grew up in Japan or lived in Japan, or are just interested in Japanese culture, or flower arranging!
