Sacajawea Chapter, NSDAR, in partnership with George Rogers Clark NSSAR, the City of Tumwater, and Mills and Mills Memorial Park, will present “Talking Headstones.” at the Union Pioneer Calvary Cemetery located in Tumwater on Oct. 24, 2026, from 1 to 2:30 p.m.
This is a family-friendly walking tour in Union Pioneer Calvary Cemetery. The Daughters of the American Revolution has been restoring headstones, lifting headstones, and finding unmarked graves in the park. They want to share the restoration with the public by giving eight presentations on families buried in the park. Those families include the Cornell family, Brown pioneer family, Kratz family, Drebis family, Charles Mason, and Thomas Mason. Additionally, Ray Gleason, Cascade Tree Experts, LLC, will give a small presentation about the butternut tree transplanted in the park.
It is recommended that you access the cemetery by parking at the south end of Mills and Mills Memorial Park and walking through the Littlerock Road streetside opening in the cemetery fence. Wear walking shoes and appropriate clothing to be outside for an hour and a half.
