TCSO reports crime spike on Independence Day

911 systems fail

TCSO said it received hundreds of calls on the 4th, including many related to domestic violence, a 50-person disturbance in the Scott Lake area, and a DUI collision with a stolen vehicle.

Ten deputies and a supervisor were out handling the calls and the additional unassigned 89 other pending calls.

“To say the 4th of July was very busy is an understatement,” TCSO said.

From between 10 p.m. and midnight, the 911 system failed and went to the backup system, leading to 800 to 900 calls within the county that dispatch to follow up on after the system went down.

Meanwhile, unincorporated Thurston County made 634 calls to dispatch, including the 911 calls that were assigned to TCSO.
