A three-person melee broke out Sunday night at about 9 p.m. in the alleyway near 119 Capital Way N in downtown Olympia, after witnesses watched a man assault a woman by punching her in the head.

Olympia Police arrested Ricky Fuentes for simple assault, and interacted with two teenage boys who fended off Fuentes’ attacks of both them and the female bystander. The female victim said that she had been sitting on the side of the street, when Fuentes came up behind her and punched her multiple times in the head.

One of the teenagers said that they thought Fuentes was trying to rob the female victim, and that they tackled him to the ground, held him with his hands behind his back. When Fuentes was having trouble breathing, they got off of him, only to have Fuentes re-engage in attacking. Fuentes trying to bite one of the boys’ fingers, so he was punched twice in the side of the head, eventually sitting back down and discontinued fighting.

An uninvolved third-party witness who works for Intercity Transit verified that three men were fighting in the alleyway, with one of the teenagers yelling for security while they were fighting. The witness said that the fight stopped for a short while, then restarted when Fuentes caught his breath.

A 26-second video of the altercation was filmed by the alleged victim.
