The Free Jazz Festival presents Trilogy & The Joe Mailhot Jazz Unit

Posted by TheGatheringSpace

The Joe Mailhot Jazz Unit features the music of composer/guitarist Joe Mailhot, with Craig Hoyer on keyboards, bassist Erich Hahn, Steve Bentley on drums, and newest member, flautist Nancy Curtis. The JMJU draws from styles ranging among modern jazz, funk, soul, free and psychedelic. Joe Mailhot's original compositions are inspired by jazz masters like Coltrane, Coleman, Davis, Ayler and The Art Ensemble of Chicago as well as by modern European composers like Penderecki, Crumb, and Stravinsky. Come and travel to musical soundscapes bombastic, tender, wild, beautiful, brilliant, and dark. It's not about the music but where the music takes you.

TRILOGY is a trio featuring long time Seattle free jazz veterans, Chris Fagan and Dick Valentine saxes, and Don Berman drums. Chris Fagan has played with some of the world's top musicians including Bobby Bradford, Jack McDuff, Dave Douglas, Reggie Workman, and Andrew Cyrille.

Dick Valentine and Don Berman have appeared as a duo at both the Wayward Music Series and the Earshot Jazz the Second Century Series and participated in several memorable past performances at the Olympia Free Jazz Festival.
