A routine vehicle stop for a turn signal violation led to the arrest of three convicted felons, as well as the seizure of a firearm and drugs.
The incident happened in the early morning hours of Thursday, Nov. 28.
A Thurston County Sherrif's Office deputy in field training stopped the vehicle.
"The driver pulled over but refused to cooperate and called 911, stating they 'didn’t feel safe.' The driver showed signs of impairment and was eventually placed under arrest for DUI and obstructing law enforcement," said Sheriff Derek Sanders in a social media post.
"As the deputies prepared to tow the car, two passengers exited and both drugs and parapharnalia were observed in the car. A search warrant was obtained to seize the drugs from the vehicle. During the search, deputies located what appeared to be methamphetamine, fentanyl, and possibly crack cocaine."
Deputies also located a loaded handgun with a scratched off serial number.
"An addendum to the warrant was obtained to seize the gun. All of the occupants in the vehicle are convicted felons not permitted to be in possession of guns," Sanders said.
At some point, the driver of the vehicle started to hyperventilate. The driver, who was not identified, was taken to an undisclosed hospital.
A warrant was also granted to get two vials of blood from the driver to test for the presence of intoxicants.
"The first passenger had a spontaneous seizure when they learned they had warrants out for their arrest," Sanders said.
The first passenger was also taken to a hospital before being booked into Thurston County Corrections Facility.
The second passenger was arrested for unlawful possession of a firearm as a felon. The passengers were not identified, nor was the location of the incident.
