The county and the cities of Lacey, Olympia, Tumwater, and Tenino collectively received $2,003,580 in grants from the Washington Department of Commerce, the county announced on Friday, September 20.

The $2 million grant will subsidize the purchase and installation of electric appliances for low- and moderate-income households.

The grant supports the Energize Thurston campaign which seeks to advance energy efficiency in homes through public outreach and financial incentives. Through the campaign, the county and the cities plan to help income-qualified participants to pay for heat pumps and other electric appliances through incentives.

All residents, regardless of income, may also benefit from the program through discounts, guidance, and customer support, according to the county.

The $2 million grant is divided through the following allocations:

  • $472,263 for Thurston County
  • $481,483 for Olympia
  • $477,555 for Lacey
  • $477,540 for Tumwater
  • $95,009 for Tenino

The Energize Thurston Campaign expands on Olympia’s Energize Olympia campaign which the city can use the grant on. Lacey, as well, can use the grants in its own version of the program called the Energy Efficiency Rebate Matching Program.

The grant is funded through Commerce’s Home Electrification and Appliance Rebates program which is supported by Washington’s Climate Commitment Act.
