A state audit of financial systems and controls ended favorably for Thurston County.
The Washington State Auditor’s Office found the county to be a good steward of applicable state laws and regulations, as well as its own policies. The audit also found the county properly safeguarded public resources.
The accountability audit report from the state auditor’s office was for the period of Jan. 1, 2023, through Dec. 31, 2023.
“Credit for our clean audits goes to our talented staff, who uphold our sound policies and foster a county-wide culture of accountability,” said Thurston County Auditor Mary Hall in a statement.
“We value our partnership with the (state) Auditor’s Office in reviewing and ensuring the integrity of our financial systems and controls.”
The audit examined a variety of areas, the county said, including procurement, budget compliance, accounts receivable, personal and business use of county credit cards, cash receipts, payroll, jail operations, compliance with state grants, use of restricted funds and open public meetings.
“This clean audit report is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our county employees,” said Tye Menser, Chair of the Thurston County Board of County Commissioners, in a statement. “We are committed to being good stewards of taxpayer dollars and ensuring efficient and effective government operations.”
