A 38-year-old man was arrested over the weekend on suspicion of second-degree rape following an incident involving his landlady at her residence in Thurston County.
According to investigators with the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office, the suspect had been living in a trailer on the victim’s property.
On June 17, the suspect allegedly entered the main residence and sexually assaulted the woman, according to a victim's statement in a sheriff's office report.
The woman reported the assault to her husband after he returned from a business trip several days later, who in turn contacted the authorities.
The victim underwent a sexual assault examination at Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia. Medical staff documented injuries consistent with nonconsensual intercourse, including internal trauma.
During the interview with the suspect, he initially denied any sexual relationship with the victim but later admitted that something did happen to the two of them.
He claimed the encounter was consensual and attempted to show messages to support his claims, but investigators reported finding no recent evidence of mutual romantic communication.
During the investigation, it was also discovered that the suspect has a police record.
“After running (him) through a Washington State records inquiry, I found out that (he) is a registered sex offender here in Washington State,” the sheriff's office investigator states in his report.
Due to a probable cause based on the victim's account, the suspect's own statements, and the physical evidence collected, the suspect was arrested on June 21 and booked into the Thurston County Corrections Facility for rape in the second degree.

When scary articles like this are published, the least the author could do is offer the public some resources. How about a crisis hotline? Or these bits of info?

I think it is amazing Thurston County Sheriffs Office is actually doing good police work and following through with investigations. I think the past leadership Under the Governor or "criminal" I should say Jay Inslee, really tied up alot of the B.S. and polices on arresting criminals in Thurston County . So kudos to the Thurston County Sheriffs Office and actually finding there balls to go after actual criminals and turning our community around for the better. Your doing a good job finally
