A Thurston County man was arrested yesterday in connection with the bombing of an automated teller machine (ATM) in Centralia on Dec. 19.
The Centralia Police Department on Tue., Jan. 4, announced that it had arrested Ryan T. Moulder, 39, of rural Thurston County, one of the two suspects in the blast. The other individual has yet to be identified.
Centralia police earlier reported that it was working with the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Washington State Patrol Bomb Squad to investigate the explosion of a First Security Bank ATM on 604 S. Tower Avenue in Centralia.
The explosion was caused by an unknown improvised explosive device used by two suspects who later took the contents of the ATM and fled aboard a Honda Accord, according to Centralia law enforcement.
Centralia police said evidence from the explosion covered an area of about 10,000 square feet. Some of the money recovered from the scene had burned edges.
Authorities urged people with knowledge of the incident to call the Centralia Police Department at (360) 330-7680 or Lewis County Communications at (360) 740-1105.
