Thurston County opens new streamlined site for ordering birth and death certificates

Today it became easier to order birth and death certificates in Thurston County using new online forms.

Applicants for such documents will continue to be required to prove they are qualified to make such orders.

Birth certificates

Qualified applicants for a birth certificate are: Self, Spouse/Domestic Partner, Child, Parent, Stepparent, Stepchild, Sibling, Grandparent, Grandchild, Great Grandparent, Legal Guardian, Legal Representative, Authorized Representative, or Government Agency or the Courts (only for official duties).

"The online ordering process ensures compliance with state laws, accelerates turnaround times, increases security, and streamlines vital records ordering in Thurston County," according to Thurston County Public Health and Social Services.

Death certificates 

Qualified applicants for a long-form death certificate are: Spouse/Domestic Partner, Child, Parent, Stepparent, Stepchild, Sibling, Grandparent, Grandchild, Great Grandparent, Legal Guardian, Legal Representative, Authorized  Representative, Next of Kin (if no one else from this list is living), Funeral Director or Funeral Establishment listed on the record (up to 12 months from the date of death), or Government Agency or the Courts (only for official duties).

For same-day service, customers can visit the Public Health and Social Services office located at 412 Lilly Road NE in Olympia or mail a printable form available on this page.
