Timberland Regional Library Expands Reach and Increases Access for Patrons in Innovative New Ways

Posted

Libraries are regularly evolving and changing to meet the needs of their patrons. Timberland Regional Library is responding to these needs by increasing library access through the Books by Mail program, Anywhere Library, extending open hours, and adding more Expanded Access Hours locations.

Books by Mail

The parameters for the existing Books by Mail program have recently been expanded to include anyone who is physically unable to get to the library due to lack of transportation or physical impairment, or who otherwise has no means of receiving materials except by mail.

The Books by Mail Program allows 5-week checkout windows on books and DVDs to allow for mailing time and includes return postage, allowing patrons to return their library materials at no cost.

To apply for this service, patrons can fill out the Books by Mail application on the TRL Website.

Anywhere Library

Anywhere Library, launched in Thurston County in June 2023, is a mobile library that brings TRL materials and services directly to community sites.

Anywhere Library stops are scheduled on regular dates and times each month and work just like any other library branch. Patrons can request holds to be delivered to the scheduled stops, return materials, check out new items, and utilize free Wi-Fi and printing services.

Anywhere Library provides services to patrons who may currently have barriers preventing them from visiting current library locations such as: living in remote or rural locations, issues with mobility, or limited access to transportation.

Expanded Access Hours

The Tenino Timberland Library is the newest TRL branch to add Expanded Access Hours (EAH) to their location! Expanded Access Hours allow patrons to access the library and its resources beyond regularly staffed hours.

Expanded Access Hours are from 7 am until the library opens and after the library closes until 8 pm, seven days a week (including holidays).

Services include library materials and resources, computers, printing, self-checkout, restrooms, and a space to work.

Patrons eligible for EAH must be 14 years or older, possess a valid/active TRL library card, read the Patron Agreement Form, and agree to EAH terms & Conditions. Learn more at trl.org/EAH

Great job, considering the cost of gas, finding new ways to support library users in remote rural areas important to say the least.
