Anyone who cares about the Thurston County agriculture and farmland -- or who appreciates locally grown veggies and meat -- is invited to complete an online survey to share your perspective on local agriculture.
A US Dept. of Agriculture census performed in 2017 revealed that 1,200 farms operated in Thurston County, encompassing a total of 62,250 acres. In order to encourage agricultural activities in the area, this community-driven review of agriculture policies and programs will help officials re-examine land use and zoning policies, regulatory matters and incentive programs.
The survey will be available to all until Fri., Feb. 12, and takes about 10-15 minutes to complete. Results of the survey will be shared with the Board of County Commissioners and published on the Community Planning website.
“Agriculture is a critical part of the Thurston County community and economy, and supporting local farming is a priority of the Thurston County Board of Commissioners,” said Jennifer Davis, community planning manager. “The community’s participation in this survey will help the county evaluate its policies and programs to best support local agriculture.”
