Toompas moves back into lead in Port of Olympia Commission, District No. 2 race

Posted

Challenger Jerry Toompas came from behind to move ahead of incumbent Bob Iyall for the Port of Commission, District No. 2 seat in the Nov. 4 General Election.

Toompas overcame a 32 vote deficit from earlier in the week to lead with 38,929 votes or 49.86 percent, compared with 38,799 or 49.69 percent for Iyall, according to unofficial election results from the Thurston County Auditor’s Office Elections Division.

The results were released at 4:02 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 12. There are an estimated 390 ballots left to be tabulated countywide.

The latest update marked the second time Toompas has held the lead in the race. Toompas held a 34 vote advantage over Iyall after the ballot count was updated on Thursday, Nov. 6.

The current margin between Toompas and Iyall is close enough to trigger a manual recount, which would take place at a meeting of the Canvassing Board on Nov. 25.

A total of 84,201 ballots have been counted in the Nov. 4 General Election. That marked a voter turnout of 39.46 percent. The next ballot count update is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 13.

Voting out any incumbent in Thurston County good....port, county, city officials all need to go. Flabbergasted at the horrible leadership and spending priorities of those in charge.

Maybe we can Finally Close the Biggest Funds sucker The NON VIABLE MARINE terminal. AND restructure the Marine Waterfront to Promote Tourism, and Non Forest Based Brake Bulk Goods, for some Longshore Families. We still have rail although in Need of repair.
