Traffic Advisory

Traffic disruption at 14th Avenue tunnel tomorrow

Posted

Olympia will be partially closing 14th Avenue East in the tunnel near Jefferson Street, the Southeast roundabout and Plaza Garage tomorrow for around four hours.

According to the city’s press statement, one lane of 14th Avenue East’s eastbound traffic will be closed for two hours, then another lane of the street’s westbound traffic closed off for another two hours.

The closures will happen from 8 a.m. to noon.

“The closures will not block regular access to the Plaza Garage, 1500 Jefferson Building Visitor Parking, or East Capitol Campus,” the city reassured, noting that the work will be weather-dependent.

The city is working with the Department of Enterprise Services to evaluate underground utility tunnels to uncover the reason for recurrent flooding in the 14th Avenue Tunnel.

“Lane closures are required to clean and safely access the storm drain pipes,” explained the city.
