Traffic stop leads to discovery of more than 1,000 grams of suspected methamphetamine

A speeding infraction landed a motorist in some additional legal trouble after a search of the driver's vehicle resulted in the seizure of a pile of suspected methamphetamine and other drugs.

The incident played out early on Wednesday, Feb. 18, when a Thurston County Sheriff's Office sergeant stopped a driver for speeding.

"During the traffic stop, it was discovered the driver swapped the license plates on the car with a different vehicle," said Sheriff Derek Sanders in a social media post.

A subsequent search of the vehicle turned up 1,149 grams of meth, 177 grams of fentanyl powder and 35 grams of cocaine.

The search also netted $1,862 in cash, a money counting machine, narcotics packaging materials and an empty firearm case and magazine, said Sanders in the social media post.

The suspect, who was not identified, was arrested for possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver and driving on a suspended license.

"A pile" of drugs is right! 1149 grams of meth is 2.5 pounds! And fentanyl can be 50 times more lethal than heroin. Good job TCSO!
