Traffic stops net stolen motorcycle, pickup truck in south Thurston County

A couple of traffic stops led to the recovery of a  stolen motorcycle and stolen pickup truck in the south end of Thurston County.

A Thurston County Sheriff's Office deputy was in the Rochester area on Sunday afternoon, Dec. 28, when a motorcyclist was pulled over.

The deputy ran the license plate, which came back as stolen out of Thurston County.

"The rider, who had an active warrant out for their arrest, was taken into custody without incident," said Sheriff Derek Sanders in a social media post.

"During a search incident to arrest, a substance suspected to be methamphetamine was located on the suspect."

The unidentified suspect was booked into Thurston County Corrections Facility for possession of a stolen vehicle, unlawful possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine) and possession of drug paraphernalia.

A little more than five hours later, the same deputy stopped a Ford flatbed pickup truck on Old Highway 99 for driving without license plates.

"While walking up to the vehicle, the deputy noticed the license plate was on the truck but bent up so it could not be viewed. After running the plate, dispatch advised the truck was stolen out of Thurston County," Sanders said.

"The driver, a convicted felon for attempting to elude and possession of stolen property, was placed under arrest for possession of a stolen vehicle. During a search incident to arrest, the suspect was also found to be in possession of substances believed to be heroin and meth."

The truck, which was stolen from a business one week earlier, was later returned to the owner. An investigation is ongoing.
