Tumwater has finalized two projects by its water resources and sustainability department.

The city council considered the renovation of its water resources and sustainability department’s new office at South Puget Sound Community College to be complete. The council meet on Tuesday, April 1.

The renovation by JA Morris Inc. cost $299,739, which was funded through the city’s utility funds.

The renovation involved turning two existing classrooms in the Natural Science Building into office space, which includes a kitchen area for staff and a conference room.

The department moved to the office on May 20, 2024. Deeming the work as complete was the final step to authorizing the release of financial obligations associated with the contract.

In renovating the two classrooms, the city also spent $35,488 on design and permitting, and $80,052 for furnishing, bringing the total spent to around $415,000.

Palermo Wellfield fencing project

The city council also accepted as complete the replacement of a fence at its Palermo Wellfield facility, which delivers drinking water throughout the city.

The project involved the replacement of an 1,180-foot perimeter fence to bring the facility up to current security standards. The fencing was raised from 6 feet to 8 feet, and includes security features to control access and track people who enter the facility.

The replacement, costing $162,659, was completed by West Coast Fence Pros LLC, and was also funded by the city.
