Tumwater School District Board members and Superintendent Kevin Bogatin read proclamations on Wednesday, May 21, to congratulate several students, who excelled in wrestling, dance and music in the 2024-25 school year.
Resolutions 10-24-25 and 12-24-25, as well as the Superintendent Report, noted the achievements of the winning students.
The district will send a copy of the proclamations to the respective schools.
The district’s Resolution 10-24-25 recognized Sloane Kruger, an athlete from the Black Hills High School Girls Wrestling Team, as a wrestling state champion.
Kruger placed first in the state after being undefeated at the Mat Classic State Championship at the Tacoma Dome on Feb. 22. She ended the season 48-0.
“Sloane competed like a true “Wolf” with the Greek Ideal “A healthy mind in a healthy body.” Her core values, work ethic, grit and determination make her a role-model for future district athletes,” stated the resolution.
Through Resolution 12-24-25, board members recognized the 2024 Tumwater High School Dance Team, T-Birds, which competed on March 28 against teams from around the state at the Sun Dome in Yakima.
The team placed first in three categories — Dance with a score of 285.3, Hip-Hop with a score of 281, and Pom with a score of 271.5.
The resolution indicated the feat is the team’s 33rd, 34th and 35th first-place wins at the state level, the most state championship titles by any dance team in Washington.
“This team has an amazing amount of heart. What started out as a “new” team, transformed into a competitive dance team. They are committed, hard-working and goal oriented,” stated the resolution.
Bogatin’s report contained congratulations to the district’s winning and participating students of the Washington State Solo & Ensemble.
This month, band students had nine competitions as performance groups or solos at the music contest in Ellensburg hosted by Washington Interscholastic Athletic Association.
Fiona Tang, of Black Hills High School, bagged third place for her oboe solo, and Gabriel Kendall of Tumwater High School) earned third place for his alto saxophone solo.
The documents stated that the event puts all students, regardless of school size, into the same performance categories.
“Essentially both of these achievements mean that these two students are each the 3rd-best on their instrument out of every band student in the state. This is an incredible feat!” stated Bogatin in his report.
