The Tumwater School District will hold its annual donation drive, "Stuff the Bus," to collect new school supplies for incoming students from less privileged backgrounds.

The donation drive will take place on Saturday, Aug. 9, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Fred Meyer (Trosper Road) and Safeway (Littlerock Road) in Tumwater.

Donations can also be given at am alternative drop-off point at the school district office, 621 Linwood Ave. SW, from Monday to Thursday, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. until Aug. 14.

The district published a list of school supplies that they encourage others to share. Glue bottles and blunt scissors are discouraged.

For donations to the elementary level, the district requests #2 pencils, crayons, markers, loose-leaf notebook paper (college), college spiral notebooks, glue sticks, two-pocket folders, large pink erasers, pointy scissors and watercolor paint sets.

Individuals who would like to donate to middle and high school students are encouraged to provide blue and black ink pens, #2 pencils, two-pocket folders, colored pencils, college spiral notebooks and loose-leaf college notebook paper.

Students also need basic calculators, scientific calculators, memory sticks or flash drives, and earbuds.

The district is also urging the community to contribute donations for scholarships for after-school activities.

Students or families who need a backpack and school supplies are advised to check in with their school counselor.
