Tumwater is asking the public to participate in a survey, as part of a needs assessment and feasibility study for a new community center.
The construction of a new community center is among the funding priorities for the Tumwater Metropolitan Park District, a junior taxing district that local voters approved to create in 2018.
The facility would include space for events, senior services, an indoor sports area and land for a potential swimming pool.
The city has already begun the process of developing the center after hiring BRS Architecture in July 2024 to do preliminary work. The firm’s contract covers market analysis, site evaluation, facility programming and developing revenue projections.
The city is assessing four potential locations: the old brewery property, the former Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) office on Capitol Boulevard, a site off of Tumwater Boulevard and a proposed development at 93rd Avenue.
The survey, which takes about 10-15 minutes, may be accessed through this link. It asks people for their level of engagement with the city’s park facilities and recreational programs, as well as their level of satisfaction and why they may not be utilizing them more.
The survey also asks people to rank what features they want most in a community center. Options include a jogging track, cardio equipment and weights, group exercise rooms or dance studios, sports courts, multi-use activity courts, an indoor synthetic turf, meeting rooms, lounge, an e-sports room, a maker space and arts and craft room, and a locker room.
People have until the end of the year to take the survey. More information about the planned community center is available on the city’s website.

Careful…..Tumwater will ask for suggestions and questions and do what they want anyway.
A HUGE NO to helping out Rob Rice and his mini-city but he has buddies on the council. Besides it is too far away.
A HUGE NO to Tumwater Blvd…..stop cutting down all the trees!
Where at the Brewery? That would be good to know. It is a good central location and it might get the ball rolling on getting it cleaned up…finally!
WSDOT is also a good location but a very busy traffic area. I wish something could be done to preserve that beautiful building.
