A Tumwater teenager admitted to “pushing” his mother’s door after he became upset with her for supposedly telling “lies” about him.

Tumwater police arrested the suspect, 19, on March 31 after his crying mother called authorities to report that he would not stop kicking down her door.

“I got a call for help from my sister stating that my nephew has kicked down her door and was kicking it down as I was on the phone,” the suspect’s aunt wrote in a witness statement.

“There was yelling so I rushed out to my sister’s house,” the aunt added, noting that the suspect was calm when she arrived and told her “nothing [happened], I’m just chilling.”

The sister told police that the mother was intoxicated. Officers said the mother appeared to have a hard time staying balanced and had red and puffy eyes.

The mother said she was in her room when her son tried to force his way in, making her feel scared.

Police said the door had been sunk in and was no longer aligned with the door jamb. The latch assembly was also found on the floor near the door. An officer estimated the cost of damage to be about $100.

The suspect told officers that his mother was on the phone with his father and telling “lies” about supposedly “criminal” things that he had done.

Police noted that the suspect repeatedly changed the topic when they would ask him about the damage to the door.

Eventually, the suspect said he “pushed” his mother’s door open, insisting that he “had to” because of her alleged lies. He denied kicking the door.

The suspect was booked at the Nisqually Jail for third-degree malicious mischief. He protested his arrest, stating that “anyone could have done that [damage] to the door,” but police said he already admitted to “pushing” the door open.
