The City of Tumwater and Tumwater Timberland Library (TRL) jointly announced in a news release that the library will close for a remodel from Jan. 11-26.
Limited services are expected to resume on Jan. 27 during construction.
After the full closure, the library will reopen to allow patrons to access a limited selection of materials, public computers, printing and internet from the library's meeting room from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Saturday.
The remodel is set to transform the library into a more modern structure that includes an innovative new children’s area, improved all-ages spaces and a refreshed layout that enhances accessibility and efficiency.
“The Tumwater Timberland Library is a cornerstone of our community, and we’re excited for these updates. The remodel will ensure this vital space continues to serve as a hub for learning, exploration, and connection,” said Mayor Debbie Sullivan in the news release.
The library’s remodel is expected to be completed by June 2025, with a grand reopening celebration planned.
In the interim, patrons are encouraged to visit other Timberland Regional Library branches, including Olympia, West Olympia, Lacey and Hawks Prairie, with all accessible by bus. TRL also features extensive online resources at TRL.org.
Assistant Library Manager Bernard Weathersbee expressed gratitude for the community's patience and support during these necessary updates.
“The goal is to create a welcoming, comfortable, and modern library that Tumwater residents will be proud to have in their community," said Weathersbee in the news release.
Updates about the remodel, temporary services, and reopening plans will be posted on the Tumwater TRL and City of Tumwater social media pages. Patrons can also subscribe to email updates on the TRL website.
