A traffic stop of a vehicle with no license plates led to the arrest of two people on a variety of charges on Saturday evening, Nov. 29.
A Thurston County Sheriff's Office (TCSO) deputy and K-9 Asher were on patrol in an unincorporated part of the county when the stop occured.
"The driver had a suspended license and was detained. During that process, drug paraphernalia was observed," said Sheriff Derek Sanders in a social media post, which noted the area is known for break-ins, vehicle prowls and gas siphoning of U-haul trucks.
"K-9 Arco from Olympia PD responded to the scene to conduct a drug sniff. This led TCSO deputies to obtaining a search warrant, in which drugs and parapharnalia were located in the car and seized."
Sanders said an occupant inside the vehicle provided a false name to a sergeant on scene to try and avoid going to jail for an active theft warrant. That person was arrested for the warrant and felony criminal impersonation.
"A female passenger had a felony warrant for a sex offense, however due to space constraints at the jail, she was released at the scene. The driver was cited for drug possession and suspended driving," Sanders said.
"The vehicle was impounded, and there was no evidence in the area that any vehicles or buildings were broken into."
