Two suspects linked to stolen vehicle from Lacey and identity theft arrested

Authorities have apprehended two suspects allegedly involved in a case of a stolen vehicle and identity theft using stolen credit cards.

Late at night on September 7,  Lacey Police Department received a call from a Lacey resident, reporting the theft of his 2004 Volvo S60 from his driveway, valued at about $5,000.

The victim had left his wallet inside the vehicle containing two credit cards, identification cards, and some cash with the stolen credit cards subsequently used, racking up charges totaling around $700.

Video footage obtained from a Chevron gas station revealed a bald, white male filling the stolen vehicle with fuel while conversing with a red-haired woman, who was filling the tank of a gold Honda Pilot and then the stolen vehicle.

The two were later identified as Shana Roberts and Darren Evans.

Another piece of video evidence, this time from Home Depot, showed the same two suspects using the stolen credit cards. They exited the store and then entered the Honda.

On September 11, Chehalis Tribal Police discovered the stolen Volvo parked at Lucky Eagle Casino, but Roberts was not at the scene. Evans approached the vehicle and was read his Miranda rights, and arrested by the Chehalis Tribal Police. He was transported to Thurston County Jail, and booked for possession of a stolen vehicle.

On September 16, the owner of the vehicle notified the investigating officer that the vehicle was recovered. The towing company had a bill of $1,200 that they were responsible for. The officer states, “they were upset that they were not notified the vehicle was recovered.”

After getting permission from the vehicle’s owner to search the recovered vehicle, police uncovered several items linked to Evans, including numerous checks, multiple social security cards, and various documents that appeared to be stolen, some of which date back to 2012, 2016, 2019, and 2020.

Furthermore, authorities found 35 hypodermic needles loaded with white and brown liquid substances, a white crystal substance in drumstick wrappers, and chunks of a brown tar-like substance.

As a result, authorities requested Thurston County Prosecutor the additional charges of possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver against Evans.

Stolen mail and identity theft

In a separate incident on October 4, Lacey PD received a call from another complainant, who reported that the occupants of a gold vehicle had stolen mail from his mailbox bank and driven off.

The second complainant followed the suspect vehicle and spotted it at a Jack in the Box on Sleater Kinney Road NE.

The second victim described the two suspects, with the description of the female suspect matching that of Roberts.

Dispatch relayed this information to responding officers, who intervened and arrested Roberts, who denied involvement in the theft of the Volvo S60 and the use of the stolen credit cards during her interrogation.

However, Roberts, wearing a beanie, wore the same beanie in the surveillance footage from Chevron and Home Depot, establishing her connection to using the stolen credit cards.

Roberts was arrested for identity theft of credit/debit and possession of a “stolen property access device.”
