TYT Reads

Posted by TeninoArts

TYT Reads performances are one night only, script in hand, full-length shows. They use minimal props and set pieces, while still creating a theatre experience.

Beautiful
Gabrielle is blind but has tremendous insight. Troy can physically see but doesn’t notice much. When Troy first approaches Gabriella at the park and tells her she’s beautiful, he’s taken aback that she rebuffs his compliment. He’s even more surprised when he realizes that the young woman is blind, yet still appreciates the beauty all around her. How could she comprehend beauty if she’s always been blind? Their conversation becomes a beautiful lesson, literally, for Troy. Gabrielle encourages him to close his eyes and use all his senses to experience other types of beauty. The pair also discovers a shared appreciation for the lyrical beauty of Shakespeare’s words and the imagery he paints with them. By the end of their encounter, it is Gabrielle who has helped Troy learn to see more clearly. In doing so, he realizes that his new friend is truly beautiful — both inside and out.

Love at First Thought
As William Shakespeare wrote almost 500 years ago, “Love looks not with the eyes, but with the mind.” And while teenager Norm knows all about Shakespeare, he’s still unfamiliar with the world of crushes and young love.
A bit of a geek, Norm has a quirky habit of sharing his favorite books by leaving them for someone else to find and hopefully treasure. When he watches a girl he’s gone to school with for years, Jolaine, discover his favorite Shakespeare play he left on a park bench, they share a look and a smile that creates a magical moment of connection. Both Norm and Jolaine are with their best friends, providing the audience with four different points of view on this burgeoning relationship. These perspectives are cleverly revealed through internal monologues where the four characters speak their inner thoughts out loud.
