UPDATE: Police monitor suspect standing on monkey bars for three hours to prevent him from becoming injured

After another arrest, Corylee Bartlett is now being held in the Thurston County Jail

Posted

Corylee Everett Bartlett, who was out on parole awaiting a May 15 jury trial for a December 2020 protection order violation, was arrested again on Sun., April 11 for domestic violence and burglary at the 2500 block of Prospect Avenue NE.

As of today, he is in the Thurston County Jail.

Bartlett, who has a long domestic violence history involving his mother, was witnessed by his mother’s second-floor renter as Bartlett attempted to enter the residence through a window. The renter told the 9-1-1 dispatcher that he thought Bartlett was high on drugs.

Olympia Police approached the residence, observing Bartlett on foot near the eastside of the residence. Bartlett refused commands and then climbed onto a playset in a neighbor’s yard, standing on top of a set of monkey bars. Bartlett was more than six-and-a-half feet above the ground, according to the officers on the scene. Bartlett yelled at the officers that they had no authority to be there and they needed to leave the property, which was not his property, immediately.

When Olympia police attempted to ensure that at the top of the playset near Bartlett was devoid of weapons, Bartlett became angry, throwing a juice box at the officer. The juice box hit the top of the officer’s hat, getting juice on his uniform, and was photographed later as evidence in the report.

Olympia Police put in their report that they were very familiar with Bartlett, and have had a “significant” amount of calls to the property regarding Bartlett. Olympia Police let Bartlett stay on the playset for a length of time, concerned that if they attempted to apprehend him, he would fall or hurt himself. After talking to Bartlett, listening to very “unusual, nonsensical things, exhibiting odd behavior” due to the influence of narcotics, Bartlett got cold after three-and-a-half hours and climbed down from the playset, according to the police report.

Bartlett has an extensive history of challenges

As previously reported in The JOLT, Bartlett has an extensive history with law enforcement. Bartlett, 48, is currently being held in the Thurston County Jail without bail.

He was arrested Dec. 15, 2020 after being found hiding in the same house on 2500 Prospect Ave NE, drinking hand sanitizer, and then fled the scene prior to arrival of the Olympia Police Department. OPD K-9 Kaiser was dispatched, tracking the suspect, but was assaulted by Bartlett with a metal rod. Bartlett had four felony charges and a misdemeanor pending for December 15, 2020 which had yet to be resolved in court.

Bartlett’s continued involvement with law enforcement includes April 26, 2020, at the same 2500 block of Prospect Ave NE. This includes residential burglary, domestic violence, violation of a no-contact order and third-degree assault. The court suspended all but 64 of his 364-day sentence.

In February 2020, Bartlett again was arrested for assault domestic violence. Between December 2018 and August 2019, Bartlett was arrested three times for outstanding warrants.

On Aug. 25, 2017, Bartlett was arrested again, earning a five-month jail sentence.

Bartlett crashed his car into the North Thurston High School parking lot in 2015, according to Lacey Police, earning himself 45 days in jail for driving recklessly.

No stranger to the Grays Harbor Court System, Bartlett has several domestic violence, criminal trespass, theft and residential burglary charges from 1999 to 2014.
