The National Weather Service has issued a flood warning for the Chehalis River near Grand Mound thru Sunday afternoon.  The river is expected to rise rapidly and cause major flooding.

An evacuation advisement has been issued for the Chehalis River in Thurston County.

Conditions indicate a good probability that hazards associated with potential flooding will severely limit our ability to provide emergency service protection.  Dangerous conditions may threaten your residence or business.

You must prepare to leave at a moment's notice.  Fire and law enforcement personnel are working in this area to provide specific information about when to leave and routes to be taken.

We will attempt to keep you advised as conditions change, however, this may be the only notice you receive.

Heavy rain will continue today across the region, falling on top of existing low-elevation snow, resulting in flooding.

At 144.5 feet, the Chehalis River in Thurston County will cause major flooding, inundating roads and farm lands in Independence Valley. Deep and swift flood waters will cover SR-12 and James, Independence and Moon Roads. Flooding will occur all along the river including headwaters, tributaries, and other streams within and near the Chehalis River Basin.
