One person was critically injured when the driver of a Dodge Charger lost control of the vehicle and hit a cement barrier near an Interstate 5 on-ramp.
The incident started when a Thurston County Sheriff's Office deputy spotted the Charger going an estimated 60 miles per hour (mph) in a 35 mph zone along Martin Way on Saturday, Jan. 24.
"The deputy conducted a U-turn, at which point the driver accelerated to speeds well over 100 mph despite no emergency lights being activated. The deputy got to the bottom of the Nisqually Hill and found the driver had crashed into a cement barrier near the (Interstate 5 on-ramp)," said Sheriff Derek Sanders in a social media post.
The vehilce was occupied by four people.
"One passenger was transported to the hospital with minor injuries, however another passenger, who is active duty military and the brother of the driver, appears to have been paralyzed from the collision and is in critical condition," said Sanders in the post.
"The vehicle had a fake plate on it that reads ('NOT 5.0') and a trunk mounted camera gimble, equipment that when combined is often utilized by individuals who record themselves taunting/fleeing from police at high speeds."
The driver, who is activie military, was allegedly in possession of a firearm and taken into custody for vehicular assault and reckless driving
"We are hoping the critically injured victim makes the fullest recovery possible," said Sanders in the post.

A sad example of very poor decisions by multiple young people. Now they’ve all paid a heavy price. I do hope the paralyzed soldier can recover, though. Fortunately no officer or bystander was injured.

FAFO. Discharge this wreckless, terrorizing driver (with a DISHONORABLE discharge) who is endangering our law enforcement officers from the Army and send them all back to Arkansas where they belong and antics like this are a common occurrence. Maybe causing their own paralysis will be a wake up call but it’s highly doubtful.

Just another example of 'Play stupid games, win stupid prizes". Just the fact that the plate was bogus, the camera set up, etc, means they were doing a live "Grand Theft Auto".
