Vehicle pursuits end with arrests by Thurston County law enforcement authorities

A couple of pursuits that involved Thurston County Sheriff's Office personnel did not end well for two scofflaws on Monday evening, Jan. 12.

The first pursuit started when a sheriff's office deputy clocked a vehicle traveling around 85 miles per hour in a 50 mile per hour zone on Tilley Road.

"When the deputy attempted a traffic stop, the driver fled and a pursuit was initiated. The driver fled down Tilley (Road) before crashing into a telephone pole at low speed," said Sheriff Derek Sanders in a social media post.

"The driver was placed under arrest and the passenger was treated for minor injuries. A search warrant was obtained for the vehicle as deputies could see a large bag of suspected methamphetamine inside of it. A firearm was also located in the vehicle along with evidence of drug dealing."

The second incident stemmed from a request by the Centralia Police Department  for help with a pursuit northbound on Interstate 5.

The motorist was suspected of driving under the influence and was wanted on warrants.

Sheriff's office deputies joined the pursuit. One of the deputies was able to bring the pursuit to a halt.

"(K-9) Mac and his handler were able to conduct a PIT (precision immobilization technique) maneuver, disabling the vehicle and allowing an arrest to occur without further incident. This suspect was turned over to Centralia Police Department," said Sanders in the social media post.

Neither motorist was identified by the sheriff's office.

    1. A large bag of meth? Good catch TCSO!

    2. Good teamwork with the Centralia police. I wasn't sure if the TC deputy could do a PIT maneuver with K-9 Mac in it; glad to read it can be done.
