Voter registration training

Goal? More registered voters participating in grassroots democratic practices and processes

Posted

The Community Engagement Ministry of New Life Baptist Church (NLBC) in Lacey has invited several organizations for a Voter Registration Training Session. This is intended for persons in the greater Thurston County area interested in a free one-time opportunity to become a Voter Registrar. This training session is open to all community members and is a non-partisan activity. It will occur on Saturday, September 16, 2023, at 10 a.m. in the Morris Fellowship Hall at New Life Baptist Church - 7838 Pacific Ave SE, Lacey, WA 98503.

The League of Women Voters will facilitate the training with the support of the Thurston County Auditor’s Office – Election Division. Our democracy is under attack like we’ve never seen before. The Right to Vote has been a major constitutional freedom being compromised in many ways across this country.

The more trained people the community has in the various racial, ethnic, and marginalized segments of society, the more likely it'll have more registered voters participating in grassroots democratic practices and processes. Given the upcoming November election for local offices and certainly, as locals look to 2024 and beyond, this is very important. The expectation is for those trained persons to find other volunteers and conduct Voter Registration activities in some manner as appropriate and convenient for your organization or entity. No further obligation is asked except to inform and educate people and encourage them to vote!

This effort is part of the NLBC Community Engagement Ministry and continues the historical tradition of the Black church in being proactive in matters relating to freedom, liberty, and justice. Please RSVP by Thursday, September 14, if you or someone from your organization will be in attendance so that adequate seating and materials can be provided. NLBC looks forward to your participation and appreciates your attention to this matter. Democracy matters!
