"We Are Puget Sound" coming to Lacey and Olympia Timberland libraries

Beginning in April, Lacey and Olympia Timberland libraries will host the photography exhibit, “We Are Puget Sound” in support of the campaign to protect and restore Puget Sound.

Timberland Regional Library has partnered with the Puget Sound Estuarium to bring the touring exhibit to the Lacey and Olympia locations.

Presented in two parts, the exhibit will be on display for two months in each location. Lacey will host the first half of the exhibit in April and May, with the exhibit being partially installed by April 9, and fully installed by April 15. Olympia will host the second half in June and July.

"Lacey Timberland Library is honored to host this important exhibition of images that reference the Sound as the center of the place we all call home,” said Timberland Regional Librarian Kerry Martin, who is leading the project for the Lacey Timberland Library. “We welcome the Estuarium and this exhibit with the hope of hosting thoughtful contemplation and discussion that will strengthen our community.”

We Are Puget Sound is a campaign, book and multimedia touring exhibit amplifying the voices and ideas of those working to protect and restore Puget Sound. The stated goal is to engage and inspire people around the region to join to preserve the Puget Sound ecosystem and support the livelihoods of those that depend on it.

TRL staff are excited to share unique perspectives on the estuary and the creatures that call it home, Martin said.

“Just as our building, a space built by our community, reflects our local land and culture,” Martin said, “we hope that this exhibit will help reinforce the connections between people, our built infrastructure on land, and the many creatures that rely on our stewardship of the Salish Sea.”

Martin added that while the exhibit is being displayed in the libraries, it is a perfect time to view the photographs free of charge.

According to the exhibit description, the photo exhibit presents “striking images from the book We Are Puget Sound: Discovering and Recovering the Salish Sea." The book features more than 20 regional photographers and highlights individuals working to find meaningful solutions to protect Puget Sound’s waters and wildlife, as well as human health and the economic prosperity that the region supports.

Both libraries are open Monday through Saturday. Lacey Timberland Library is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and the Olympia Timberland Library is open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
