Here are some highlights of events coming in early October.

Tumwater Falls Fest, Saturday, October 1, from 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. 

The inaugural Tumwater Falls Fest, sponsored by the Olympia Tumwater Foundation and the City of Tumwater, will celebrate the history of the Deschutes River as a traditionally sacred area as well as a place of trade and industry. There will be local artisans and food vendors, salmon education, a scavenger hunt, face painting, arts & crafts, music, and other fun things going on around the park. The event will be from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm, but the park will be open from 8:00 am to 7:00 pm. Click this link for more details. 

Khentrul Lodrö Thayé Rinpoche: The Power of Mind, Saturday, October 1, from 2 - 4 p.m. 

Khentrul Lodrö Thayé Rinpoche, a Tibetan Buddhist Monk, and esteemed scholar will be coming to Olympia, as part of his international public talk/book signing tour. This free event will be held on Saturday, October 1, from 2:00 to 4:00 PM at the Olympia Community Center, Room A, 222 Columbia Street.

Browsers Book Shop in Olympia is an event partner, and the book can be purchased at their store now or at the event, where Rinpoche will do a book signing after the public talk. Click this link for more details.  

OlyWines Community Grand Opening, Saturday, October 1, from 1 - 6 p.m. 

OlyWines is set to hold its Grand Opening! The new neighborhood wine shop is set to formally open its doors this Saturday at their shop located at 321 Cleveland Ave SE Ste, Suite 309, Tumwater. The store is offering a special 20% off coupon for all in-store purchases during the event. The event will include wine tastings, wine education, as well as serve delicious charcuterie hors d'oeuvres! Click this link for more details. 

Fall Arts Walk starts Saturday October 1

 Olympia Arts Walk now runs the entire month of October, with different events and exhibits each day of the month.

This semi-annual community event celebrates various arts. In a typical year, thousands gather in downtown Olympia in both the Spring and Fall for a festive arts experience that uses creativity to connect and engage. Many unique downtown businesses and organizations transform their spaces into creative hubs filled with art, demonstrations, and performances. In the streets and sidewalks, you will find pop-up performances and places to connect around almost every corner.. Click this link for more details. 

BARKtoberfest, September 30 to October 2

Come and join the PNW's Bavarian-inspired Oktoberfest! Together with Love Local Events, Saint Bernards of the PNW is bringing you this exciting new take on Oktoberfest that will feature our furry friends the Saint Bernards of the PNW! The festivities will include a Saint Bernard Parade, the tapping of the keg, live music, enjoyable carnival-style games, biergartens, and more on Friday night (beginning at 2 p.m.). Lattin's Country Cider Mill & Farm's Pumpkin Festival, all weekend, October 1 to October 2

Come to the Pumpkin Festival at the Cider Mill & Farm every Saturday and Sunday in October! Since its establishment in 1976, this tiny, family-run farm has been working all year to provide you with the best fruits and vegetables. Lattin’s is well-known for their tasty apple fritters and award-winning apple cider. Vendors also sell pumpkin patch games, doughnuts, fritters, animal train rides, wagon rides, and the petting zoo (Availability is subject to weather). Click this link for more details. 

Orca Books Co-op Marxist Reading Group - The State and Revolution, Wednesday, October 5, 6 - 7 p.m.

Come and discuss classic and contemporary Marxist literature! The reading group will be held "after-hours" at Orca Books Co-op from 6:00 pm-7:00 pm. The title for our first group session will be V. I. Lenin's 1917 text, The State and Revolution. Click this link for more details. 

History Pub: 1962 Columbus Day Storm, Thursday, October 6, from 6 - 7 p.m.

The Columbus Day Storm of 1962 was a freak of nature, that killed dozens, injured hundreds, damaged more than fifty thousand homes, and leveled enough timber to build one million homes. This October marks the 60th anniversary of the storm. Join us as John Dodge, author of A Deadly Wind: The 1962 Columbus Day Storm takes us through the whirlwind. The event will be inside the cask library of the new Heritage Distilling Co. Guests are encouraged to sit back and relax, with a cocktail if they wish, and enjoy learning about our area’s history from captivating speakers. Click this link for more details.
