About the JOLT Name and Logo

The colors mean something but the order of the letters doesn't.

If JLOT had a double meaning, we might have used it. Same with JTOL. But JTLO or JLTO? Fuggedaboudit.

Jolt means to push, or shake. That sometimes defines good journalism, too. We hope to live up to our name.

As far as the colors go, well, blue and red are sometimes used to describe political movements, purple is what comes from mixing the two, and green is our state color (and represents an interest in our environment).

Another echo in our logo is how it reflects our three largest institutions of higher learning: Green, for the soon-to-be-renamed Evergreen State University (currently and since its founding in 1967, The Evergreen State College), Blue for South Puget Sound Community College and Red for Saint Martin's University. We love 'em all!
