A good Samaritan called dispatch after witnessing an allegedly intoxicated woman attempt to drive away from a scene in west Olympia after her car initially stalled last Fri., May 21.

Mariah Storlie, 23, had been stumbling outside of her stalled vehicle with items from her purse on Jackson Avenue. The eyewitness, Michael Harman, pointed out her fallen items to her, only to be cursed at. Harman told Olympia Police that Storlie appeared intoxicated, so he called 911. See police video interview with Harman, above.

Storlie managed to get back into her black Mazda, which “stalled multiple times” on Jackson Ave, then Storlie managed to drive through a residential yard and fence, and then went southbound onto Garfield Ave SW.

Olympia Police contacted Storlie at Rogers St NW and Conger Ave SW, near the entrance to the Garfield Nature Trail Park.  She works at a nearby tavern, according to Olympia police.

Upon initial contact, officers smelled the odor of alcohol and urine on Storlie. There was also a puddle of urine in the driver’s seat of Storlie’s car. Storlie “appeared unaware” of the fact that her pants were all wet and smelled of urine.

Due to Storlie’s alleged level of intoxication, she was unable to stand on her own and had to lean on the trunk of her vehicle. Storlie initially agreed to perform standard field sobriety testing, then when the handcuffs were off, declined the tests and acted “confused as to what I had asked her.”

A search of Storlie’s vehicle revealed a plastic bag with a dollar bill folded inside, containing 0.79 grams of cocaine.

At the Olympia Jail, Storlie provided a 0.227 and a 0.235 on the Draeger breathalyzer test.

Storlie was booked in the Olympia Jail for driving under the influence.

Pending DUI case from December 2020

Storlie has a pending Thurston District Court case for driving under the influence from a previous 2020 arrest by the Washington State Patrol.

In that case, according to the Washington State Patrol, eyewitnesses stated that Storlie had passed them on the SR 101 to Cooper Point Rd bridge, at 80 mph at 5:10 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 4, 2020. Storlie had been weaving in and out of traffic, passing several cars, then lost control of her gray Mazda, hitting the Jersey barrier on the driver’s side, then bouncing off of the passenger’s side of the Jersey barrier, before coming to a complete stop facing traffic, blocking on the on-ramp.

Storlie told the state patrol officer that her tire had popped, and pulled her vehicle to the left, striking the Jersey barrier on the Cooper Point Rd bridge. Both the driver’s side front and back tires were flat.

According to the Washington State Patrol arrest report, Storlie performed a preliminary breath test at the scene and provided a .163 BAC sample. Later, Storlie had a 0.130 on the Draeger breathalyzer.

The Dec. 4, 2020 DUI arrest factored into Storlie’s May 24, 2021 arraignment [recording is available below this story] in which the Olympia Municipal Court required Storlie to undergo intensive supervision pending her court case.
