A 29-year-old woman was arrested in Lacey after allegedly stealing an Amazon package and assaulting a police officer.
A Lacey Police Department report states the alleged theft and confrontation occurred on Aug. 29.
The suspect, identified as Danaysha Kjuana Lynd, was spotted in the area of 20th Avenue SE and Sycamore Street SE around 4:20 p.m. after the alleged theft occurred.
Witnesses reported a woman acting suspiciously and stacking branches in the street earlier in the day. Lynd was later seen by responding officers carrying an Amazon package that was delivered to a residence in the 1900 block of Sycamore Street SE.
Police confirmed the package was not addressed to Lynd and the owner of the package said she had no connection to the residence.
The contents of the package were removed by the suspect at the intersection, the report states.
“I asked Lynd if the package she was holding was hers, and she stated she found the package on the ground where she was currently standing. Lynd was holding the contents of the package, and the packaging was located at her feet,” a responding officer said in the report.
When police attempted to take Lynd into custody, she allegedly resisted by tensing her arms and bracing against the officers. During the struggle, she reportedly kicked an officer with her right leg.
Due to the suspect’s continued resistance, officers used a restraint device to safely secure her before transporting Lynd to Thurston County Corrections Facility. She was booked on charges of third-degree assault and third-degree theft.
The package was returned to the residence.
