Authorities arrested a 30-year-old woman after an alleged shoplifting incident at Macy’s Capital Mall at 625 Black Lake Blvd. SW.

According to an Olympia Police Department report, Macy’s loss prevention employees detained the suspect after she attempted to leave the store without paying for the merchandise on Sunday, Aug. 17.

The items were valued at $875.48 and included a leather purse, clothing and makeup. Store security recovered the merchandise in full.

When responding officers arrived at the store around 6:14 p.m., they met with store staff, who reported the suspect had resisted briefly when employees attempted to stop her but did not become assaultive.

Police say the suspect initially identified herself using a false name.

“I informed her she could potentially be charged with felony identity theft by providing a fake name and asked her again to clarify. She instead remained silent,” a responding officer stated in the report.

During the booking process at Thurston County Corrections Facility, fingerprint scans revealed her identity as Elizabeth Brook Rogers, a resident of Lacey. The suspect was also confirmed through a previous booking photo on file.

She was arrested on suspicion of second-degree theft. Police noted she could also face charges related to providing a false identity during the investigation.
