A 37-year-old woman was arrested after she allegedly trespassed at a residence and later assaulted a responding officer, according to a Tumwater Police Department report.

Responding officers were dispatched around 10:20 p.m. on July 10 to a home on Elm Street SE after the owner of the residence called and reported an unknown woman attempted to enter his garage and made disturbing statements.

The woman reportedly refused to leave the property when asked by the owner, but left just before law enforcement officers arrived.

According to the homeowner, he was outside his residence with his young daughter when the woman entered his property, harassing him and stating of her "owning his life."

The man said the woman was a stranger and he was concerned since he was with his daughter and the woman would not leave his property after he told her to get out.

Law enforcement officers canvassed the nearby area and located the suspect, identified as Stephanie Brooks of Olympia, near Hazelhurst Drive SE. Officers said she appeared agitated and was possibly under the influence or experiencing a mental health crisis.

When officers attempted to detain her on suspicion of criminal trespassing, she resisted arrest and reportedly kicked one of the responding officers.

“As we controlled her upper body, Brooks then kicked out backwards with her right leg. Brooks’ kick made contact with both of my legs, on my inner left knee and below my right knee, which caused minor pain and discomfort that still exists several hours later,” the responding officer stated in his report.

As a result, officers brought her to the ground and used a WRAP restraint device to prevent further injury to herself or others. Emergency medical personnel evaluated her at the scene, and then cleared her for transport.

The woman was booked into Thurston County Correcitons Facility on charges of third-degree assault and second-degree criminal trespass. No serious injuries were reported.
