A 50-year-old woman is facing a felony charge after authorities linked her to multiple thefts at the Target store on Sleater Kinney Road SE, the Lacey Police Department said in a report.
Police arrested Tami Ver, at her residence in Tumwater on May 29. According to authorities, Verd is responsible for stealing nearly $800 in merchandise from the Lacey Target over six separate incidents. Across multiple Target locations, her total theft is estimated to exceed $1,800.
“She would pass all points of sale with the concealed merchandise,” an investigating officer wrote in the report. "I reviewed the footage and watched as Tami would enter the store, walk towards the clothing and home goods section, and exit with stolen merchandise."
Police say Verd used a tactic known as “skip-scanning,” where a person scans only selected items at self-checkout while deliberately avoiding scanning higher-value goods.
The security personnel at Target worked closely with police to track Verd’s thefts through Target’s Trufusion asset protection system, which uses RFID sensors to flag unpaid merchandise.
The suspect’s thefts occurred over several months, starting in January 2025. Police outlined six incidents, including the latest on April 16, when the suspect and an unidentified female suspect entered the store, filled storage bins with merchandise, and left without paying for most of it.
According to police, Verd scanned only a few food items at self-checkout before leaving with about $218 in unpaid goods.
When officers arrived at the suspect’s home on the morning of May 29, they confirmed her identity and matched her vehicle, a silver Hyundai Accent, to the car seen in store surveillance footage.
When the suspect was taken into custody, she remarked, “You’ve got a lot of people … for just a little shoplifting.”
Police told Verd that theft is a felony. She acknowledged her rights and decided to wait for her attorney before sharing more details.
However, she showed interest in returning the stolen items, telling authorities that many were for her kids.
Verd was booked into Thurston County Corrections Facility for second-degree organized retail theft. She was also issued a formal trespass order from all Target stores, which she signed.
Authorities continue to investigate the identity of Verd’s female accomplice from the April 16 incident.

"Just a little shoplifting"? How much is 'just a little?" To me, stealing is stealing. It doesn't matter if it's a piece of chewed up gum, it's theft. I wonder how she'd feel if someone stole her car. That's just ONE item, right? And who's keeping an eye on her 'kids' while she's out five finger discounting? I shouldn't say that too loudly, we had a situation at a neighborhood garage sale meet where four kids were allowed to run wild in four different directions, distracting the sellers, and Mom stole stuff right off people's tables. One of the 'kids', a teen, stole the garage door opener out of a car with open windows (due to the hot weather, I guess) and a month later that house was burglarized. Guess how they got in.

Thank God we have brave law enforcement officers willing to protect Target from a loss that surely equaled at least the amount of **** that got lost from rolling under shelving or getting misplaced in the stock room since the theft started. And I'm sure the hours worked by Target loss prevention and Lacey PD didn't result in a bill exceeding that amount, which was almost as large as a single months average rent. No no. Truly we live in a just society.

Glad she was caught, but the courts will have her hands slapped and back out on the streets in no time, Once again the criminal behavior will be rewarded. I say we put back the old chain gangs into place and make her work it off doing something that will make her realize crime doesn’t pay.
