Youth voice wanted on Thurston County Board of Health

A youth representative seat is now open on the Thurston County Board of Health for students currently in 9th grade through college level.

The Thurston County Public Health and Social Services Department (PHSS) is accepting online applications for the single position on the board.

"This is an exciting opportunity for young people who are passionate about public health, environmental health, and making a difference in their community," said PHSS in a release on Tuesday, Jan. 6.

The seat requires attendance at monthly Board of Health meetings, which are held on the second Tuesday of each month at 3:45 p.m. Compensation includes a $500 stipend for year-long participation.

The Board of Health oversees efforts to improve the public's health by providing leadership that shapes the department's approach to public health policies and programs.

As part of the role, the appointed student would “share youth perspectives and help shape community health initiatives.”

PHSS also encouraged residents to pass along the opportunity to any qualified youths interested in participating on the Board of Health.

Applications can be submitted through the county's online portal. The county did not specify an application deadline.
