'Catastrophic' water leak at Littlerock Elementary School

No classes until at least Thursday

Posted

The frigid temperatures experienced over the past several days have led to numerous cases of frozen water pipes, affecting businesses, homes, and buildings, including at Littlerock Elementary School where a massive water leak has closed the school until at least Thursday, January 18.

Littlerock Elementary School is the latest casualty of this weather phenomenon, with two frozen pipes breaking and releasing hundreds of gallons of water throughout parts of the building, according to a message from Principal Glenn Spinnie.

The pipe damage has rendered the school's fire suppression system inoperative, and the district now needs to relocate six classrooms to other parts of the building before resuming classes.

The principal called the damage "catastrophic" and expressed the school's commitment to resolving the issues promptly, aiming to have everything in order by Thursday, however, parents and students must wait for the update that will be communicated as the reopening date approaches.

Make-up dates or additional information about rescheduled classes are not available at this time.

That school was completely renovated and expanded a few years ago. Why wasn't the plumbing repiped then?
