Posted
A Thurston County corrections deputy was credited  with saving the life of an inmate, who was found hanging in a cell on Thursday, May 1.

The unidentified corrections deputy was conducting a routine cell check in the max unit at the time the inmate was found.

"The deputy noticed something odd and entered the cell, discovering a suicide attempt by hanging.
Additional deputies responded and began rendering aid," Thurston County Sheriff Derek Sanders said in a social media post.

"The inmate was transported to the hospital and was medically cleared. The inmate is back in the jail and placed on suicide watch. Outstanding attentive work by our corrections team to prevent a death inside our jail!"

After frequently reading negative reports on corrections deputies, I am pleased and relieved to see something that shows heroic, fast action by one deputy supported by their colleagues. A commendation Iis definitely warranted!!

WOW~Why all the applause when he was "doing his job"~What would make this worth reporting in the news is IF: the officer had a positive impact with the inmate(s), and the attempt was never carried out in the first place. I believe the culture of this facility is wrought with discrimination and injustice, especially if TC public defense is involved.
